How the Bundle Setup Works

The foundation of this setup is simple: it uses a collection page template in Shopify that allows customers to choose and combine items directly.

Here’s how Brendan’s example works:

  1. Create a new collection (for example, “Bundle”).
  2. Assign a custom collection template to that page.
  3. Any products you add to that collection will appear automatically in the bundle interface.
  4. Customers can add or remove items dynamically — and once they’ve added the required number (say, three), they can add the bundle to their cart.

Because it’s built around standard Shopify collections and products, it’s easy to control how items appear, reorder them, and adjust the visual layout in your theme editor.

Applying Discounts Automatically

Once the customer adds their selected products to the cart, a discount is triggered.

In the demo, I use the Simple Discounts app, which applies a 25% discount when three items from the designated collection are added. The setup is clean — there’s no need to generate new SKUs or track bundles as separate products.

Each line item in the cart remains an individual product, meaning your existing fulfillment and inventory workflows stay exactly the same.

If a customer removes one of the qualifying items, the discount automatically disappears, keeping everything accurate and transparent.

This approach works equally well for promotions like “Buy 2, Get 1 Free,” “Mix and Match,” or even limited-edition seasonal bundles.

Flexible Styling and Customization

Everything in the demo uses simple theme styling for illustration, but this setup can be tailored to match any brand aesthetic or campaign.

You can adjust:

  • Colors and layout to match your theme
  • Discount thresholds (e.g., 3 items for 25% off or 4 items for 30% off)
  • Messaging in the cart (“Black Friday Bundle,” “Summer Savings,” etc.)

With additional customization, you can extend this even further — for instance, allowing customers to choose four products plus a free gift, or structuring multi-tiered discounts for different cart sizes.

Because it’s built directly within Shopify’s core functionality, the experience is fast, stable, and easy to manage long-term.
